How many grams are you eating?
One of the things that has bothered me on this diet, is that other people on low carb get in the rut of talking about how many grams of carbs they eat.
It shouldn't be about how many grams, but the percentage of your diet made up of carbs.
Let me show you:
One carb is equal to 4 calories.
So 50 grams of carbs would equal 200 calories.
If you are eating a 1200 calorie diet 50 grams equals 17% of your diet.
If you are eating a 2000 calorie diet 50 grams equals 10% of your diet.
Big difference.
I concentrate on the percentage. I am on the high side for low carb; 20% is the max I will eat. Considering that most non-low carb diets are 40% to 60% or more carbs, it's still low carb.
But it is annoying to go on to forums or groups and people are bragging how low they can eat low carb. There is some one-upmanship with a few posters. If someone posts they eat only 40 grams, someone has to brag they only eat 20. It can make you want to smack someone.
Take it all with a grain of salt.
Concentrate on what works for you and your diet. Those of us that have to eat more carbs (by gram) are not eating any different if we look at the percentages.
It is easier to just count the carbs. But if that is all you are doing, you could overeat. I could eat like a Tudor noble and eat nothing but meat. Extremely low carb, but not a balanced diet.
Don't get hooked up on how many grams you are eating. Write down what your are eating and look at the larger picture.
